About Us
The ministry volunteer ministers are committed to journey in faith with people who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  These ministers supply comfort, support, help, and direction to those in grief by offering emotional support, funeral planning, and remembrance services.  They are the reminder that at this most difficult time, this parish community is available to help and comfort them.

A CLOSER LOOK- The Bereavement Ministry helps those who have lost a loved one to go on with their lives, to move through the pain and loneliness, the anger and fear, of being alone.  The ministry helps them tell their stories and share their feelings.

The ministry began many years ago in churches and hospitals throughout the world.  The ministry began more specifically at St. Luke under the guidance of the pastor, Fr. Donald Grasha.  It was a ministry near and dear to his heart.   The Bereavement Ministry coordinator, at the time, was eager to start a program and begin training.

Each session provides encouragement for those who have lost a loved one.  It also provides an opportunity for people to meet others who are going through the same things.  It is a comforting atmosphere to know that you are not alone, and what you are experiencing is normal.

Those who are seeking help from this ministry are encouraged to attend an eight week session where we read about the topic for the evening and answer a few questions that direct our discussions.  All are encouraged to participate so that the healing process can begin.  The pain and confusion after losing a loved one is understandable and the atmosphere is comforting and reassuring.  People are always free to express themselves. Participants of many different faiths and backgrounds have attended the sessions. The class is free, except for a nominal workbook fee.

This ministry is closely knit to the parish.  Many parishioners face the loss of loved ones and the ministry provides a place to go for comfort and help to move from sadness and despair to new life.

The ministry's facilitators are dedicated and understanding of the needs of those who attend the sessions.  Many know themselves what it is like to lose a loved one.
The Bereavement Ministry holds eight-week sessions several times a year.  If you or someone you know would find comfort and healing through the hands of the bereavement ministry, please consider attending a program.  God Bless.
