Father Mark’s
Corner
Humility is a theme in today's Scriptures. And, the bigger you are in
this world the more humble you will need to become. The book of Sirach states that the humble person will be more loved
than the giver of gifts. What is a "gift?" One dictionary offers this definition: Anything given;
anything voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation; a present; an offering.
I wouldoffer the addition og..."with no strings attached or expectation of return." When we examine our giving
it must be done in the context of humility. If we find that we are attaching conditions or strings to our giving then
we may need to explore our idea of gift and giving. There have been times as a priest when I have heard, "after
all I have given to that church..." That is an example of "strings attached!" Let's put it another way.
What if Jesus did the same thing, "After dying on the Cross for them..." I don't want to go there...do you?
Spiritual reflection: And, so, the journey continues…

FAITH PROCESS INFORMATION
MEETING
Do you know any non-Catholic
who has expressed an interest in the Catholic faith? Maybe you have a relative or a neighbor who is baptized but has
not continued the call to conversion through the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
We will be holding an Information Evening for
you or any interested parties to show how the RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation of Adults) just might be the answer.
This process is a gift of the church, which offers a guided journey of faith as well as reinforcing the principals of
Christian living for those already baptized. Also, if you are a parent of an older child in need of Baptism, please
attend this meeting and we will assist you in the sacramental preparation process.
The information meeting will be held in the Parish Resource Center located in the Rectory
from 7:30-8:30 PM on Wednesday, September 8th. The actual formation process will begin on September 15th. If
these dates are not convenient for you, please call the Parish Office at 626-291-5900. We will make arrangements to
meet with you.
