A LOOK AT OUR SACRISTANS
(March
2008)- The Sacristans at St. Luke Parish are a group of 15 dedicated parishioners. They serve our Catholic Community by helping
prepare the physical elements of the mass. Aside from the decorations, they prepare the credence table, the host, wine, and
all other necessary components of the Mass.
The congregation may not know much about this
group, but their role is vital to the organization and easy flow of the Mass. Groups of two gather around 15-20 minutes before
each Mass to prepare and once the readings are finished, they put everything away. There are four teams, including one family,
that serve one Sunday per month. The remaining groups alternate between the 5:30 Saturday and 5:30 P.M. Sunday Masses, while
the 6:30 A.M. Masses are handled by parishioners who regularly attend those Masses. This ministry does not require a
large amount of time and effort, but rather dedication and commitment to the benefit of the congregation.
Betty, one of the coordinators, says that the biggest blessings about being a Sacristan
are "working with the priests and getting the sacred vessel prepared for the Mass." The Sacristans generously volunteer
their time and they are a true blessing to the parish. Each Sacristan was trained at our church and the procedures they follow
usually surround what the priests request. Anyone who is interested and willing to offer their services in this way, are free
to do so. Those interested in becoming a Sacristan are encouraged to inquire in the Parish Office.
We thank the Sacristans for all of their hard work, it is greatly appreciated!
