Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick
_______________________________________________________________________________________

About Us
These specially trained Eucharistic Ministers make weekly visits to the ill and the shut-ins in our parish and offer prayers and the Holy Eucharist.  They visit those in local convalescent hospitals and join them in Rosary each week, offering the Holy Eucharist to those well enough to receive.  They visit local hospitals to offer encouragement, prayer, and the Holy Eucharist.

Eucharistic Ministers are needed to serve the Catholic patients at Arcadia Methodist Hospital.  Communion is brought to the Catholic patients who request it, while hospitalized.  Call the Parish Office for more information.

Ministry Purpose
As the Bible teaches us and in the words of Jesus Christ, we are called to serve one another.  We serve one another through the gifts of our many ministries at St. Luke Church.  Since the late 1970s, as part of the reforms of the Second Ecumenical Council, our parish began using Eucharistic Ministers.

Eucharistic Ministers are “extra-ordinary” ministers in that they are only used when there are not a sufficient amount of ordained ministers to handle proper and timely distribution.   There are two types of Eucharistic Ministers, those that distribute the Holy Eucharist during Mass, and those that distribute It to those who are unable to attend Mass.

Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick visit and distribute the Holy Eucharist at private homes, and at local convalescent homes and hospitals. Those who receive the Eucharist from a minister are also visited on the first Friday of each month by a parish priest, during which time Eucharist is given, prayers are said, and there is also an opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance.  One may also be anointed with Holy Oils.

This ministry is crucial to our church because it provides an opportunity for those unable to attend Mass to still receive the Holy Eucharist and hear the Word of God from a loving and dedicated parish minister.

If you or someone you know would like to receive the Holy Eucharist from a minister, please call the Parish Office at (626) 291-5900.
