About Us
A St. Luke Tradition Continuing It's Mission for Over Twenty Years- Monday Night Scripture Study is a lectionary-based Bible Study.  We read and study the Sunday readings that are proclaimed at Sunday Mass.  The Sunday readings follow a three-year cycle (Year A, B, & C).  We are currently in Year B.  The readings allow us to study the Old Testament (First Reading) and the New Testament (Second and Third Readings).  The study of these readings enables us to be somewhat prepared when we hear them proclaimed at Sunday Mass.

A Scripture Study Class is the study of both books found in the Bible.  The Bible contains both the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the Gospels and various letters to faith communities (New Testament).  A Scripture Study Class enables one to delve deeper into the meaning of the writings found in the Bible.

We read the First Reading, allow it to 'sink-in,' and then discuss what message the reading was trying to convey to us.  Or perhaps there was a particular phrase or word that spoke to us.  Then after a brief discussion of the reading, we read from a commentary that will give its interpretation of that particular reading.  Then we do the same with the Second and Third Readings.  We also discuss how these readings can be applied to our everyday lives.

This class itself has been in existence at St. Luke for over 20 years and it is important to the mission of the church.  Since the last part of the mission statement reads: "...to welcome, evangelize, and educate; Provide spiritual nourishment..."

It is our hope that this class will be a helpful tool in one's personal and spiritual growth; that one's knowledge of the Bible may increase as well as one's insight into the readings - that one may receive the 'spirit' of the message.

Some of the most meaningful scripture verses from the class:

One them simple states: "You duped me, O Lord..." Jeremiah 20:7-9.  Many times, after a trying day, things don't go the way you would like. It's easy to feel like Jeremiah.  It's a 'let down' feeling.  And Jeremiah was very straightforward with God.  He does not hide his feelings and emotions in his complaints to God.  But after his complaining, he decides to go on with his life.

Another favorite: "I am with you always..." from Matt: 28:20.  It's a constant reminder that Christ is with us every step of the way.

The Monday Night Scripture Study meets every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Resource Center (in the Rectory).  People may come every week or whenever they are able to...anyone may 'pop in' whenever they would like.  We meet throughout the summer as well.  God Bless.
