(January/2009)- On Wednesday, January 28, 2009, the Second Graders from the School of Religious Education will be receving the Sacrament of First Reconciliation at 7:00 P.M. in the church.  After almost two years of preparation, the nervous yet excited students will be experiencing this poignant sacrament.  To prepare, the students have been learning the Act of Contrition, the Glory Be, and the Confiteor prayers as well as the Hail

Mary, Our Father, and the Sign of the Cross.  They have been learning the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and of receiving forgiveness.  They have visited the confessional for the first time and have practiced how to celebrate the Sacrament.

The program requires that the family as a whole prepares along with the student, encouraging discussion in regards to this specific sacrament.  The students and their families have been completing a workbook that explains the importance of penance, confessing, and forgiveness.  In addition, the families have prepared banners with their "family motto" and an artistic representation of their family.  These will be displayed along the sides of the church during and after the celebration of the sacrament.

Please pray for the students as they approach the celebration of this sacrament.  A special thank you to the faculty of the School of Religious Education for working so hard with these students and also to the teachers who so generously volunteer their precious time to the future of our church.
