News TBA Purpose The Order of Christian Initiation (OCI) and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
are sacramental processes by which inquiries are welcomed into the Catholic Faith community through Baptism, Confirmation,
and the Eucharist. The process offers a guided journey of faith as well as reinforces the principles of Christian living
for those already baptized and for those who
will be fully initiated. It is a year-round process and members celebrate Liturgical Rituals throughout the year at Sunday
Masses. Adults, teens, and children are ministered to each Wednesday and also during Sunday morning masses at
their respective levels. These steps of initiation were implemented in 1971 after
the Second Vatican Council decided to return these rites that were used in the early church and revise the process of
becoming Catholic. The four stages of the process are:
1. The Precatechumenate: The Inquiry Stage 2. The
Catechumenate: Faith Formation 3. Purification and
Enlightenment Period: Spiritual Preparation during Lent
4. Mystagogia:Sacramental experience period between Easter and Pentecost Anyone
interested in becoming Catholic or returning to the church may call the Parish Office at (626)291-5900 or the School of Religious
Education Office at (626) 291-5925. This is an ongoing process and inquiries can be taken at any time. Mission Statement: The RCIA/OCI is a ministry which fosters evangelization
and spiritual guidance on the journey to Christian Initiation. Uncatechized adults
and children of all ages come to us to search, to discern, and to learn how their life stories are destined to intertwine
with the life story of Jesus and the Catholic Church. Theirs is a journey of
faith and ultimately a response to the call of Jesus to: "Come Follow Me." |
