About Us
Aben Zoar Caravan #133
Southern California Region, Monrovia, Ca

The Order of Alhambra is a Catholic organization and ministry that assists the developmentally disabled and handicapped.

The Order of Alhambra is named after the ancient palace in Granada, Spain where the Moors surrendered to Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492 after occupying Spain for almost 900 years.  The Order has taken that occupation as its historic theme.

The symbols, the red tower of Castile and the crescent of the Saracen have been chosen in recognition of an advanced and accomplished society. The members of the Order wear fezes which are white to denote purity.  The names of caravans are taken from Spanish cities events, and people of the period of the Moorish occupation.  Aben Zoar was the name of a Moorish pharmacist whose work was studied until comparatively recent times.

Many members of St. Luke Parish are actively involved with the Order of Alhambra in Aben Zoar Caravan #133.  The Caravan was chartered on Nov. 23, 1958 through the loving support of Msgr. John Birch at St. Luke Church.  It is a local chapter now located in Monrovia and part of the Southern California Region.  Aben Zoar is involved with Marian Homes, Inc and the Knights of Columbus.  Aben Zoar members who are also members of St. Luke Parish assist handicapped and developmentally disabled people.
