Lector Ministry
_______________________________________________________________________________________
The Lector Ministry at St. Luke the Evangelist is comprised of men and women who are entrusted with the privilege of proclaiming the Word of God in the many liturgies.  It is a special ministry for those with the passion and calling to be an instrument to the Lord.  Readings include the First and Second Readings as well as The Prayers of the Faithful and any Mass Announcements.  There are usually two lectors per Mass.
For those interested in becoming a Lector, the opportunity to enter is year-round.  It is recommended that each lector possess the desire to acquire the necessary skills to become an effective lector through training.  They must also possess the passion and enthusiasm as well as a sensitivity to volume. Interested lectors need not be deterred by the recommendations, but consider the training and opportunity to serve the Lord and the parish.
Training takes place bi-annually depending on the demand for training.  Training is done on a few Saturday mornings for one to two hours.  Typically, there are two to three sessions of training before one can lector at a Mass.  Beginner lectors will start with the Second Reading and Announcements and progress to the First Reading and The Prayers of the Faithful.  Schedules are made quarterly and each lector receives four to six assignments to lector per quarter, depending on availability and preferences.  The group is very flexible with scheduling and training.
They urge all Young Adults who are interested to contact the Parish Office for further information.  High-school aged teens are also allowed to lector and are encouraged to participate.  They have the opportunity to lector at the Teen Mass on Sunday at 5:30 P.M. or with the other adult lectors at the remaining Masses.  Training for teens is handles a little differently.  They meet the Thursday before the Mass they will be lectoring, to reflect on the readings.  This helps grasp the meaning of the readings so as to deliver it more effectively to the parish at the Mass itself.
